To Be Formed is a production company co-founded by Lance Oppenheim, making films and series across fiction and nonfiction.

Lance’s work has premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, Telluride, Sundance, SXSW, Rotterdam, Tribeca, and True/False, and has been presented at the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian, and Fondazione Prada.

This fall, Lance premiered his scripted feature debut, PRIMETIME, starring and produced with Robert Pattinson, for A24. He also directed YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING with Nathan Fielder, following Elizabeth Holmes, which will be released in theaters this October.

TBF produced THE PYTHON HUNT, directed by Xander Robin in partnership with Artists Equity, which premiered at SXSW in 2025 and received the Special Jury Prize.

In 2024, Lance directed and produced the HBO series REN FAIRE and his second feature documentary, SPERMWORLD, for FX. TBF’s first feature, SOME KIND OF HEAVEN, premiered at Sundance in 2020 and was released by Magnolia Pictures and Hulu.

TBF is drawn to unexpected, unforgettable stories that blur the familiar and the surreal—using the surreal to make the real more deeply felt, and vice versa. We call it docufantasia.
